I just received this book yesterday and I noticed a couple problems with this book right away.1. There at large sections of text missing. For example, on page 96 there is a sentence that stops in the middle, page 97 has some garbled text and then page 98 starts with a whole new section, so the sentence is never completed. Page 400,section 6.6.2,starts but there is no text (just an example) and page 401 begins section 6.6.3(so no text for section 6.6.2). Section 7.5.2, page 466, indicates there is supposed to be a list following but page 467 is almost completely blank (more garbled formatting), and there is no list on 468. This goes on and on throughout the book.2. Some places have this weird gibberish formatting which, I believe, is that causes the missing text.I am including pictures of what I am talking about.3. It is an international edition, which would be no big deal except that I can’t contact Pearson because it was not an authorized sale.This is all stuff I found within a few minutes of perusing the book...I am sure there are going to be even more errors once I start reading it.

The Dragon Book, as it is affectionately named, is something of a legendary resource among programmers and computer-science students. Not only is it one of the only references on the subject of compilers as a whole, but it's very well-written and contains a huge amount of information. It considers tricky subjects like lexing and parsing in a serious theoretical way but also includes some precious code examples.Initially when I bought this book because I was nervous about the new edition. The previous 1986 edition with the quaint illustration of the red dragon was the bench-mark gold standard for compiler texts, and I was worried that the new edition (with it's digitally animated cover, which loses much of the charm of the original) would be marred by loses and compromises. That anxiety was ill-founded. The new edition is every bit as wonderful and complete as the previous version was, with valuable information updated but nothing that I can see that is lost.One small complaint I might have, and this is not something that the authors could control, is that some important new developments have been made in the world of compilers and interpreters in the past few years. Things like PEG (Packrat parsing and OMeta), parser combinators and compound grammars are all new in the front-end world, While the state of the art in interpreters and VMs is leading to things like JIT which are turning out to be of central importance in many places but which are barely mentioned in this book at all.Anyway, on balance this is an excellent book and one that is well worth buying if you're interested in compilers, interpreters, VMs or other infrastructure components like that. This is a must-read if you're interested in working on a major existing compiler project or if you would like to dabble with your own little language or language runtime.

This book is not intended for sale in the United States. On the facing page to the TOC is this notice: "This edition is authorized for sale only in India, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Pakistan, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and the Maldives. Circulation of this edition outside of these territories is UNAUTHORIZED". There are also stickers on the front cover, top left and the back cover, bottom center, that might be hiding similar warnings. Both of these stickers just have "NEW" printed on them.Also from the back cover: "This international edition preserves the cutting-edge approach and pedagogy of the original, but may also feature alterations, customization and adaptation from the United States version."Follow-up ... I filed an inquiry with Amazon and heard from the seller and the sale is entirely legal following a Supreme Court decision back in the '90s. So much for the above. There are some physical defects, however, as some pages are not cut at the top and the text skews downward. Still readable.

If you thought you would save a few bucks buying the paperback be warned! The paperback is only in the "International" edition i.e. the version for India, Bangladesh et al. Just see the title of the book and it is already wrong! It is not authorized for the United States and states on the back that it may feature alterations et al. It is an unreliable edition that is unauthorized--not the true dragon book. I give it two stars because, besides the title, I am unable to find any other blatant issues yet, as this is the newest impression and the printers may very well finally be getting things right. Still, having an unreliable version makes everything more difficult, because what's the point of a book if you have to double check everything?

David Nichtern is a senior teacher in the Shambhala Buddhist lineage of Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche and Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche. David was one of the initial American students of renowned meditation master Trungpa Rinpoche and studied closely with him soon after his arrival in the United States in 1970. David has been co-director of the Shambhala Meditation Center of Los Angeles and Karme Choling meditation center in Vermont, as well as Director of Expansion for Shambhala Training International and Director of Buddhist Practice and Study for OM yoga. His work has been featured at The Huffington Post, and he leads meditation workshops around the world and online. I highly recommend David Nichtern's book "Awakening from the Daydream." I found It enjoyable and easy to read. The book would also make a great birthday or holiday gift. This is just some of what you will gain from reading it:1) You will learn about, and have a greater appreciation for, concepts such as karma, samsara, impermanence, and the Buddha's Wheel of Life.2) You will learn very specifically how to do several kinds of meditation, including Mindfulness meditation, Contemplative meditation, Tonglen ("giving and taking") meditation, Insight meditation, and Metta ("loving-kindness") meditation. This book will be very helpful for both those at the beginner and advanced levels of meditation.3) You will learn under what circumstances you should apply each of these kinds of meditation.4) Most importantly, this book will help you manage and give you relief from a variety of mindsets through meditation and related practices. If you answer YES to any of these questions, this book can help you: Do you feel anxious because you are constantly comparing yourself to others? Does your mind leap from one thing to another? Do you constantly long for something in the past or worry about the future? Do you fall into repeatable boring routines? Do you have relentless or obsessive cravings of one kind of another that you'd like to resist? Do you have fears, silent rage, or hopelessness?So, go ahead and buy this book! I am glad I did!

David Nichtern has written a smart, concise book that unpacks one of Tibetan Buddhism's most esoteric topics -- the symbolic Wheel of Life and the Six Realms of Existence -- and makes these teachings completely relatable and down-to-earth. The Six Realms are explained in terms of their psychological symbolism and the way they color our everyday lives. Nichtern's book is also really clear on the tricky subject of karma, how we build mental and emotional habits that "trap" us in these Six Realms, and how we can free ourselves.

This is an excellent book! If you are a beginner in studying dependent arising/origination, this is a great introduction of the Great wheel's components. Or, if you are already familiar with the wheel of life,--12 nidana, 6 realms of existence, 3 root obscurations, and Kamma--it can add new insight. His analogies to demonstrate concepts are really fun and very easy to understand and to relate to. (Karma in a fish tank is hilarious--and on point. 6 realms of eating ice cream, and the wheel compared to a power point presentation are so relatable--Love it!) He really brings the ancient concepts into modern-day relevance. You might recognize yourself in some of the suffering realms, and learn of ways into better realms. Very informative presentation of the fundamentals of Buddhist teachings in a short easy to read format. Hope you give it a try.

I got mine last week--I am about one-third into it and so far am enjoying the clear, concise language and modern interpretations brought to the facets of the Dharma Wheel. Even non-Buddhists and those not interested in Buddhism per se can identify with suffering, habitual patterns, and the desire to be free from an unproductive, unfulfilling, cyclical existence. This is a book that should be read slowly, but can be read in the small, demarcated divisions to fully absorb important concepts.My only suggestion is that larger photos of the detail would be most helpful to those of us who learn better with visual aids. The small picture of the wheel on the cover is not sufficient to view all of the realms.

Sometimes it's hard to get through books on this subject. Too much jargon, too many foreign phrases, too much conceptual, abstract ideas. This book puts those concepts into everyday language, moving them from abstract to concrete and practical. Best explanation of Karma I've ever read, turning it from a "belief" to a practical tool you can use to improve your entire life. I was given a paperback of this book and loved it so much I wanted to keep a digital copy with me at all times.

An excellent explanation and "update" on the Buddha's wheel of life. I feel that David's book "Awakening from the Daydream" is to the wheel of life what Traleg Kyabgon's book "Karma" is to Karma.

Amazingly clear and straightforward approach to this topic (the wheel), which always intrigued me but seemed daunting. David puts a real life spin on the wheel and really helps the reader see its relation to the principles and practices of Buddhism. I found his insight on the uses of meditation especially helpful. I will probably read it many more times, it is absolutely now one of my must-reads for my Buddhist practice. Thank you David!

This was a well written book with many fun and interesting facts about dinosaurs that are scientifically accurate, with full color illustrations of hundreds of dinosaurs. A great book for a future paleontologist and it also included a poster that lists all the dinosaurs in the book.

Love love love this! My 11yr old is super into dinosaurs and Jurassic World, so I knew this would be perfect for him. The illustrations are beautiful and the poster inside is fantastic. I'd definitely recommend it.

I got my six-year-old grandson this book for Christmas along with, of course, dinosaurs. He is in kindergarten and loves to write out the names of the dinosaurs. I don't know whether my grandson or I love it more.

I would have loved this book as a kid. It has great info on so many dinosaurs. The pictures are cool, there are interesting facts about all the dinosaurs. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves dinosaurs. It comes with a small dinosaur poster too.

This is a pretty nice book. My 3 year old has a super love for dinosaurs.We have had trouble finding good yet fun books for him to look at or for me to read to him. Usually the selection of dinos is disappointing.This book lists nearly all of the common dinosaurs that you routinely hear about. It lists some of the dinos that you sometimes hear about. And it lists some dinosaurs that you have never heard about. Nice selection.Each page has a dinosaur with a nice picture and information and fun facts. Some dinos get a whole two pages. The information is great along with some theories. Fun facts. Nice depictions of what they may have looked like.The poster is kind of small. And the dinosaur pictures on it are small. But there are lots of dinosaurs on it and my 3 year old will love it.I am giving it to him for Christmas. Also it does contain small tidbits from Jurassic World in there. Like when it talks about a Velociraptor, It has the whole next page dedicated to Blue, Charlie, Delta and Echo. ;)

I was eagerly waiting for this book, the story of the immortal soldier and werewolf archeologist. I thought they were the most intriguing characters. Hence my disappointment when their love story was rushed through to get us to the end of the trilogy. There was so much more that could have been done with these characters. Instead, there was way too much of the the dialog she writes for gods and prophets so you know they are gods and prophets. I find it repetitive and stilted. In fact, in more than one place a goddess character says the same exact thing to each of the main characters. This trilogy started out so well, the ending could have been doing much more.

I've enjoyed Robert' books for years but, although her longer books are still a pleasure, her trilogies have become too formulaic. I've met all the characters before, several times, and it's becoming too rote to enjoy like I used to.

My review for this book is very similar to my review for the other two (pasted below). Overall, I really enjoyed it. Similar to Bay of Sighs, I felt it ended abruptly, in terms of both the two characters, and the quest itself. Ordinarily, when I finish a Roberts series I am left wanting more (of course), but feeling resolved, as if things have come to an end. This series had the same elements as her other novels, but it felt to me like there had been a rush, towards the end of the book, to "wrap things up." This led me feeling not quite as satisfied as usual, when I put the book down.To be clear, I still very much enjoyed these books. I just don't think they are quite as well done as some of her previous fantasy-based trilogies.My review for this book is similar to my review for the entire series (pasted below). The one thing I will say is that Bay of Sighs is my favorite book in series in terms of the characters (and their development). However, as we neared the end of the book, I felt it ended too quickly and abruptly, as if there was a rush to wrap things up for these characters, without proper development.I'm a long-time fan of Nora Roberts, and enjoyed this book (as well as the two that followed). However, when comparing them to some of her previous trilogies involving mystical quests (the Circle TrilogyThe Circle Trilogy: Morrigan's Cross; Dance of the Gods; Valley of Silence, the Sign of Seven SevenNora Roberts The Sign of Seven Trilogy, or the Keys Trilogy) this series didn't quite live up to them. The story was good (if notably similar to previous works) and the characters interesting and engaging, but to me it read as half-hearted (like the "light" version of her previous work).These books are definitely worth reading, and I have enjoyed them very much. If you're looking for a fun, light read, I'd say go for it. Nora Roberts is a gifted writer with a great imagination and a knack for creating interwoven characters. She shows readers not just individual (and interesting/unusual) characters, but also units of characters as couples, and as "families" (i.e., the unit the 6 distinct characters make together). She has done that again with this trilogy. My only complaint is that these books didn't grab me in the same way as some of her earlier work, as if they were missing some indefinable element, or were somehow unfinished. That doesn't stop them from having a prime spot on my "shelf" (that is, the metaphorical shelf in my Kindle library). Despite my relative approval of this book when it is compared to some of my favorite Nora Roberts stories, it is definitely a good read.

I was extremely (and I do not use the word lightly) disappointed in this entire trilogy. I have read and re-read Nora Roberts books for years and have thoroughly enjoyed most of her previous trilogies. The Dark Witch trilogy made me feel a little "t-witchy" about buying any more of her books, but I am helpless to resist when she comes out with something new. That being said, this was definitely not something new. Hashed and re-hashed and utterly boring. The mermaid annoyed the heck out of me, being winy and vacuous, the seer was just "blah" and the werewolf came across as cold. I believe the only character I quite liked was the time-traveller, but was disappointed that he ended up with airhead. And with the way this group openly talks about their sex lives and mention sex every couple of sentences, I was almost waiting for them to get into a whole partner-swap thing. Does anyone really behave like this? The dialogue was prosaic and not up to Ms Roberts' normal witty level. I adore that she usually gives her characters smart and funny dialogue, making her women and her men clever and interesting. She certainly dumbed this lot down and it gave me shudders. I will not pre-order again before reading reviews. Oh, please bring back the old Nora Roberts, I miss her.

As a fairly avid Roberts fan, I have to say that yes, her books have seemed to fall off over the last few years. But this series and this particular finale was the first that I can say I was truly disappointed by.As in the first and second books I felt there was little character development, little chemistry, and no climax, no big, nerve racking boom before the big win.If you are a fan, and read all her books like me, nothing I say will steer you away from reading this series. But if this would be a series you're on the fence about, or one of the first you've read by Mrs. Roberts, I would strongly recommend going to her earlier works and saving this for when you're a fan or have days on end to finish all three books.

I enjoyed this series. Formulaic? Yes, as most of her trilogies are indeed formulaic. It's what happens with the character development that either makes or breaks the series for me. You know going in that it's good vs evil, and that good is going to win in the end. So yes, to that end, there's very little in the way of surprise. But it's the journey--and the people--I must evaluate. I found the characters enjoyable in this one. I saw a reviewer comment that all the did was eat and have sex. Well, I can't say that sounds like a bad deal for me, LOL. At any rate, I enjoyed the developing relationships and the dialogue. And while I don't feel her more recent trilogies have the kind of of complex detail that her older ones do, I still felt this was one of the more enjoyable recent series.
