"An engaging and spicy romance that targets sports fans but with a well-developed arc suitable for aficionados of YA love stories." Â -Kirkus Reviews5 stars: Everyone is in for a treat! Â Loved." -Roni Loren, author of Crash into You5 stars: "[It's] Friday Night Lights but with Hockey. [...] There's drama. There's the love of the game. And there's romance." -Elizabeth, Goodreads Reviewer4.5 stars: "Wow, this book had so much depth and heart. [...] This book has two characters dealing with some pretty heavy stuff, and I really loved how the author took us through that and the reactions and actions all made sense to me. It was just really well done. It made me feel for both of them, and I was intrigued with how they were dealing with it and how their relationship with each other would either benefit or hinder them." -Lenore Kosinski, Celebrity Readers5 stars: "I just loved everything about this novel. The characters, the setting, the romance, the stakes-it all worked for me. And I honestly am so excited to know that there will be more stories set in Juniper Falls, it seems to me like it's a town worth knowing." -Eva Scalzo, Definitely, Possibly, Maybe5 stars: "Cross does a great job of capturing the sweet, raw emotions of young love and coming-of-age through natural dialogue and real-to-life character reactions. The secondary characters keep this story moving as well. I'm excited for the next book in this series." -Dawn Alexander, DawnAlexander.com 4 stars: "The absolute best thing about this book is that it is book one in the Juniper Falls series and that means there are going to be more books!!! I’ve never made it a secret how much a love a good hockey story. So when I discovered a new YA Contemporary series that centered around a hockey town I knew I had to check it out. And I am so glad that I did, because this book is so good!Off the Ice takes place in Juniper Falls, a small town in Minnesota that lives and breathes pretty much nothing but hockey. The high school hockey team is basically royalty, and a lot of the boys act like. But then there are others, like Tate Tanley. Tate is different. He’s sweet and caring and not out to hook up with as many girls as he can possibly get. And when he sees Claire O’Connor he can’t help but be just a little taken by his sisters best friend.I really loved Tate’s character. He’s a good kid, but troubled and hiding some dark secrets. For the longest time he had no one to talk to about any of the things that were happening in his life, until he developed a relationship with Claire. In Claire he finds someone he can trust and with whom he can discuss the demons that keep him from completely enjoying his life and hockey. Plus, he’s just a really stand up guy!And Claire! Claire has seen her entire life turned upside down over the past year. Her fathers diagnosis of a brain tumor has caused her to take a semester off of school, and she begins to question everything in her life. She’s burdened with an incredible amount of guilt because she feels she was off having a good time at college while her father was suffering. Tate helps her to find herself and deal with all of her issues and it’s incredible how strong their relationship is.This story was just so good! Julie Cross has created a wonderful world in this small little hockey town, and I loved getting to know both Tate and Claire, plus all their friends. Off the Ice had everything I loved in a great YA Contemporary. Love, drama, fun characters, and a quirky little town. It was perfect! If you love ya books that center around sports teams this book is definitely for you!

I’ve been looking forward to this book for a long time! Ever since I first learned of Julie writing it and reading a very early first couple chapters…I just knew it was going to be something special. Having read it now, I was right. Off the Ice, the first book in Julie Cross’ Juniper Falls series, is a spectacular book with a gripping story line and captivating characters. This book could easily be described as having a Friday Night Lights feel, so if you’re a fan of the show, I think it would be safe to say that you would enjoy this book. The start of the book starts off with a bit of drama, but is the foundation for the rest of the story. In a town where high school hockey is the sole focus and the main event each week, Tate Tanley finds himself in the shadow of his dad, whom the town loves and adores. Little do they know who he really is – the side that Tate sees. However, there is one other person who knows just how Tate’s dad treats him and that’s Claire O’Connor, the girl whom Tate has had a crush on for a long time. Certain circumstances bring them together unexpectedly, but just for one night. Fast forward a year, and things have changed for both of them, but not for the better – or is it? I guess it all depends on how you look at it.In a book filled with hardships, discovering who you are outside of the spotlight and perhaps even finding your spotlight once again, Tate and Claire are two characters who find shelter in each other. But it isn’t without its trials and tribulations. It may be safe for me to say that aside from the unique storyline, the characters are my favorite part of Off the Ice. I find them individually inspiring and developed in a way that makes them work perfectly together on the page. The hardships that they each go through, don’t overshadow one another, which I thought was important. Everything about the story seemed well thought out and strategically pieced together. Of course, the aspect of it having a sports background didn’t hurt! I love a good book that has sports as a focus and hockey isn’t one that I feel is overdone. In fact, I haven’t really seen any other YA/NA books that have hockey in it. But maybe that’s just me!If you’re looking for an author to get hooked on, then check out Julie Cross. She has yet to write a book that I haven’t been able to put down and at this point…having read many (if not all) of her books, I doubt she ever will. 🙂 She’s earned a spot at the top of my favorite author list and even has her own shelf on my bookcase. (Yay, Julie!)

I agree with one of the other reviews that the drawings were a little freaky and didn't look a lot like Taylor Swift -- but it made a 7 year-old very happy - so I'm happy with the purchase.

Very poor quality pictures. Did not know it was an “unauthorized” coloring book until I got it. Every picture that shows teeth, makes poor Taylor look like she is wearing a very bad set of dentures. We made the best of it for the cost it was, though.

Brought this for a friend's granddaughter. She loves the pictures of Taylor. She also loved coloring the pages. Great buy for a young fan of Taylor!

I was very disappointed to see the drawings inside this book, maybe 2 or 3 of them have any remote resemblance to Taylor Swift. Seriously my 6 year old cousin could draw a better picture of taylor swift than the ones in this book. Any other coloring book would be a better choice than this one.

My 5 year old great-niece is a huge Taylor Swift fan and she loved this coloring book! She still has a few pages left to finish!

Well, daughter had fun with it - but the teeth - OMG - horrible. Making Tay look totally gross with those fangs. I had to get white out.

Bought this because my girlfriend was going see Taylor Swift in concrete for her birthday. She laughed so hard. She has enjoyed coloring while binge watching some Hulu or Nexflix. Excellent gift for any T-Swift fan!

We gave this as a gift for a huge Taylor Swift fan. It went over very well! She loves it! She is so excited.

Good historical read of the governance of Australia's early convict history.Author characterises each governor by presenting both good and bad points of their personality and how it impacted on their rule.

Why am I the first reviewer of this? It has been out for 9 years, and the author is one of Australia's best known historians.Anyway, this book covers the immediate pre-Federation years to after the Great War. It is in these years that we see the concept jelling of an Australian nation. Fighting against the centrifugal trends from outlying colonies of Queensland and Western Australia. The Federation events themselves are shown to be fairly low key. Nothing really controversial. It is the Great War that really cemented the national identity. The bloody episode of Gallipoli of course. But also the more costly battles on the Western Front. Unlike the US, Australia never fought a war of independence to establish its own identity. Instead, the Great War took its place.

Manning Clark is a disgrace to the profession of historian. Like,( was it Lillian Hellman ?),every word he writes is a lie, including "and" and "the". All that can be said in favour of this volume in that the later ones in the series are even worse. To illustrate what a looney-tune this is, Clark claims the hardy and daring Indonesian seafarers were too frightened to (allegedly) sail in the direction of Australia because of tales of a speaking fruit ("Wak Wak")!. When a lunatic tried to assassinate a previous Duke of Edinburgh, he suggests a judge who was a witness to the event was sadistically looking forward to presiding over the would-be assassin's trial - shows how much he knew about law! Shame on Melbourne University Press for publishing this base, tedious, deluded, nugatory rubbish!
