Well-read audiobook pairs well with this kindle edition. This is a great book to bounce back and forth between text and audio. The book is a classic, and this quality audio and kindle edition do it justice.

So here it is 100 years after Booker T. Washington's death. Here I am finally reading this classic wondering what took me so long to get around to reading it. I'm also wondering what is taking America so long to get over it's racial prejudices. Our bigotry and cruelty seems to come in waves in this country and right now is not one of our better times for some reason.Booker was wrong about some things. He was wrong about the KKK being gone for good. He was wrong about his belief in steady progress of race relations. He was also wrong about hard work always being rewarded. But that's easy for me to see now.He was right about his faith in the goodness of individual people, people who worked (with an ethic that shames us today), who studied, who served, who taught, who gave six eggs towards the building fund. People who gave money, and people who broke down barriers, thanks to bridge builders like Mr. Washington.This is an easy reading fairly quick book that was for me compelling and unforgettable. Mr. Washington no doubt anticipated more white people than blacks reading this book (at least initially), for the simple fact that more whites than blacks could read, and afford a book. As a college president (and founder) and by default a racial ambassador, he also nobly and deftly kept the book positive and heaped plenty of praise onto many. I don't believe he saw the world through rose colored glasses. Plenty of others would criticize our greed, injustice and prejudice. And criticize him too. Booker looked up. Thanks to him a lot more of us can too.

I was going to give this book 4 stars on account of the words are small. However the content is so BIG that I had to give it 5 stars! The man walked 500 miles to get to school and devoted his life to that of service. It just goes to show that we can truly overcome whatever obstacles are in our way if we have the endurance to walk to 500 miles. (figuratively in 2017) Let his story be an inspiration to us all. He worked to bridge the gap and not blame anyone or anything for his place in life. He rose above and we should all be inspired to do the same!

Read this book if you are in search of a truly uplifting experience. Booker T. Washington was freed from slavery at the age of 9 by the Lincoln Emancipation Act during the terrible American War between the States. He had led a harsh, deprived life but had one of those great minds & souls that enabled him to overcome his past. Education was the path. He attended college. Working as a janitor to pay for it. His whole life, aided by generous, far seeing white people, this in the Deep South, was devoted to the education of black people. Eventually he founded the famous Tuskegee College in Alabama. His tours of America to raise funds brought him fame, & the funds. Many of his speeches became famous all over America & beyond. This book is full of the determination, energy & love that one man showed to the world in some of the most troubled times America has seen. I hope everyone reads it.

I am sure I read Up from Slavery as a young person and have always been aware of Booker T Washington's success, philosophy, and the controversy concerning his support of industrial education. Reading now, a few decades later was quite enlightening especially in reflecting on the years after Washington's death when life in the South for former slaves did not seem to show that upward spiral that Washington expected. That is not a criticism of Washington but a sad reflection on how blatant racism and unfortunate economic circumstances overwhelmed the good that he felt he had accomplished for "his" people and the South. On the other hand, the success of Tuskegee is all the more remarkable if one assumes things were even worse than Washington described in his life. I read the book this second time to look at cultural issues of the time and to get a feel for how Washington described and responded to the racism that seemed to be so detrimental to most southern blacks except possibly extraordinary people like Washington. While exceedingly diplomatic and politically correct, he obviously knew racism as well as anyone and made his negative view of it very clear despite almost entirely dwelling on the positives he saw or imagined while promoting the virtues of those in a position to support his cause or at least not hinder it.

Love this book! Been wanting a book on Chesapeake Bay Retrievers since I love in Maryland and Chesapeake Bay Retrievers are the state dog, I wanted to learn more about the breed. This book has helped.

Great book for our new Chesapeake puppy...needed easy to read tips on how to train. Especially helpful for puppy biting of our hands, lease training and other basic training methods. Enjoyed this book and have referred back to as needed. I bought the used one as it was for me and not a gift...great price. I do recommend this easy to use "owner manual".

If you just got a Chesapeake, this is a perfect starter book. Although it doesn't cover any one topic in great detail, it does cover most topics a new dog owner would want to know. Everything from grooming, feeding and behavior, it's all there. Good luck with your pup.

Wonâ€™t be happening because Iâ€™m all over the place with this one and way too many thoughts on everything are swirling around in my head. The characters, all the characters, intrigue, fascinate and even disgust me in equal measure in their actions and the games they play. Even Madison, whom I probably have the most empathy for ~ at the moment anyways ~ isnâ€™t necessarily someone I can say I truly like and yet I donâ€™t not like her. And Bishop? I wouldnâ€™t say I empathize with him, but I definitely want more of him.But thatâ€™s the crux here isnâ€™t it? You canâ€™t help but continue to turn the pages because all the secrecy is driving you Bec and you NEED to know what will happen next and after that ending I am definitely happy that I donâ€™t have to wait for the next book, because yours truly may have been just upset enough to have tossed the Kindle into the freezer.The Broken Puppet***5 â€˜Trust No One. Weâ€™re definitely about to be partying up rave style, but before we touch a tinsy bit on that I have to say this one gave me the FEELS. It did. I didnâ€™t think it could, but it did. It was also all kinds of dark, smexy, dirty and violent and I devoured it!While Iâ€™ve loved the first two books, Iâ€™ve admittedly been a bit...tepid in my feelings towards Madison and Bishop. Itâ€™s not that I havenâ€™t liked them, itâ€™s more that I needed more from them. With all the secrets and games it felt like I never got them, that they were in a void so to speak and couldnâ€™t become more. But that has changed. This book showed me exactly who Bishop is and dear lord, I kinda adore him. And with Madi, I saw the woman she can evolve into. And their romance, while it will also be chaotic and explosive, finally settled and I really like how they keep each other on their toes and ground in a weird way.As for the rest of the Kings, I simply want more of all of them. With the whole â€˜cone of silenceâ€™ eliminated, we finally get some time with each of them and getting to see their personalities start to come out was a lot of fun. Nate, of the Kings, is still my favorite, but Iâ€™m kinda loving Brantley and Jace too. And Tatum, I love her and this girl NEEDS an HEA. She just does.This book definitely exposes the world of the Elite Kings and I loved learning all about it. Is it crazy and over the top? Yes. Yes it is. But thatâ€™s what makes it so much fun to read. There are definitely a bunch of twists I didnâ€™t see coming, like a ton of them, and all I can say is that I really need that next book like yesterday...but will do my best to be as patient as possible.

Since chapter no1 I was sure that I'll come back for much, much more to mrs Jones.Â From one page to another I was diving deeply in twisted and so dark story... I just could put it down. Amo Jones seduced my dark side of heart,Â I didn't read this series.... I just devorued them like totally junkie on bookish high.All 3 books are definetly must have & must read status. I'm sure that readers will gonna live them! Amo Jones and her Boys are worth every reader time !!!Let's go shopping Ladies The Elite Kings Series Boxsed are ready to being buy !!!

This storyline was great. I could see exactly where it all wanted to go. Unfortunately the details were too confusing to keep up with. One minute someone was dying and the next they are running carrying someone. One minute a place is 5 hours away the next its a short drive. Huge chunks of time went by supposedly without any acknowledgement. I truly thought these books covered 3-4 months at most due to the scenes written but then it was December to June without ever knowing it. If you can let go of the chaotic details and off timeline then you might enjoy this wild sexy ride.

Amo Jones, what an exceptional read! First I have to say, I don't buy books off of Amazon, because I I have Kindle Unlimited. However, I would purchase these three books again.I am in a group of hard core readers (we are a group of people who would rather read than watch TV). Now that said, I asked if these books were satanic. The answer which Came back to my question was, no. So, I decided to purchase and check out the excitement which was flying around my new reading group about these books.First off, I laughed and cried at certain points and scenes in these books. The story is about Madison who looses her mom and moves into her dad's home along with a step mom and step brother. The step mom is loving and exactly what Madison needs. The step brother is a jokester and always in a good mood unless provoked. Then in walks Bishop, Bishop is the leader to a group of teenager's who have seen and lived life as men!Madison also has an instant connection with two female friend's (Madison has never had a true friend she can rely on and tell deepest feelings to).All I can say is...get these book. I can't wait until the next book releases next month!

If I could give this no stars, I would. For so many people to have liked this book, I thought .99 cents was a great buy. It wasn't. The inconsistencies and mark of time was horrible. I felt like a kid wrote this book. Save yourself some time by not buying this book. Get a sample before you get pulled into this headache!

An absolutely amazing book, better than anything Deborah has released before. While her quilting is unique, amazing and brings her quilts to life, it's the applique flowers and the way they're presented that's so euphoric, contrary to another reviewer's comments. The book progresses naturally, from the basics like types of needles and thread to use, getting your applique pieces ready, how to mark your background, how to make those amazingly narrow stems and how to embroider details (3 simple methods!) to 40 pages of precise instructions and photographs of each individual flower - showing you alternate colors and the order of assembly. Absolutely clear, with additional tips interspersed. After all the "how to" pages, the book proceeds to the actual patterns - not just the Euphoria quilt, but the components and what to make with them if you don't want to make a quilt - pillows, table runners, wall hangings. Each pattern gives you the recommended enlargement percentage as well as the names of the individual flowers used and the page number of the flower instructions, so you have instant access if you need a refresher. Most of the photographs show silk fabric, but having made another of Deborah's quilts in cotton, let me assure you that they are equally beautiful, so don't feel you need to use silk. You won't be disappointed, regardless of your fabric choice. Contrary to her original book, the flowers in this one are shown using solid fabrics. Don't let that dissuade you. I'm using batik in my first project, and it looks wonderful. While the patterns might look challenging, they're doable, one flower at a time. Don't be intimidated. I plunged in, and I'm SO glad I did!Have added photo of my first project from the book to show you what one of the pillow patterns looks like in cotton, not silk. This will be quilted before being sewn together.

I have been a Deborah Kemball "groupie" ever since her book "Beautiful Botanicals" was published. Her elegant appliqué designs, reminiscent of Anna Maria Garthwaite's 18th century silk designs, are totally unique and absolutely doable. When her pattern pack "Twilight Garden" was published, I used her floral designs to create my silk quilt "My Version of a Persian," pictured below.When I first saw her "Euphoria" quilt at the 2012 AQS show in Lancaster, I was simply blown away. The ropes in front of this winner prevented me from studying it up close. You can only imagine how thrilled I was when she published a book about it!Not only is this book real EYE CANDY, but a fund of information about how to make your own project. She was extremely generous in providing the reader with patterns of forty fanciful floral designs (many different from the ones in her previous books), eight different pillows, two table runners, three window boxes, a large butterfly quilt, and a miniature. Two full size patterns are part of a pull-out. The rest of the patterns can be enlarged at your nearest copying establishment. Patterns can also be downloaded.Deborah chose to use a mixture of plain cottons and silks for the projects in this book, I find her use of shot (the warp and weft are different tones) cottons and silks especially appealing. They provide an extra sheen to her designs. But there is no reason not to use checks, stripes and floral prints if you like.Deborah's signature use of extensive echo quilting and unique embroidery adds texture to her quilts. Both are described in this book.For all you hand stitchers out there, this book is a MUST HAVE!

At times their ideas seemed outrageous but their strong belief that personal freedom is essential to a sound economy has helped shape many of the West's socioeconomic policies in the latter half of the 20th century. And it is together, too, that the Friedmans penned their memoirs. The tone of Two Lucky People is quite humble despite their considerable achievements. They remember the lingering, technical conversations--which would put most people to sleep--that they shared in front of their fireplace; the personal and professional relationships they had with Ronald Reagan, Richard Nixon, and Margaret Thatcher; Milton's winning of the 1976 Nobel Memorial Prize for Economic Science; and countless other triumphs in their field. The book lacks the personal information--tastes in literature, art, music--and the quotidian details that help form a solid sense of personality. I have read two other books written by Milton Friedman. All have been excellent books including this one.

One of the best Memoirs I have ever read. Written in plain, pleasant way, explaining how the monetarism was "born". I do recommended it two everybody, who is the "student" of Milton Friedman and his Rose.

Awesome book! However, the first one comes with unreasonable green mark on the edge of the book wich affect 2/3 of the pages. But Amazon is so good at making me a replacement---giving me extra work of printing the label, packing up, and waiting for an extra time. I really suggest that Amazon should urge its people to double check the item before they send it out. This would save them lots of money as well.

Two happy people is a bit of a bore, I am afraid. Don't get me wrong, I am interested in the life and work of these two and this is without a doubt the ultimate biography, and not only because it is an auto-biography. But it is perhaps too complete (600-odd pages, in 4to!). You can see how Freidman came to be who he was, and that is exciting, but there are extra arid sections. A must-read, though, to get a glimpse not only of Friedman the man, but Friedman the economist at work.

I like the book. But the quality of the book was not as good as I expected. It was used as a collection from a library. The cover sleeve was missing, and the cover was loose.

This is a great book for anyone who is interested in Milton Friedman, economics, The University of Chicago, twentieth-century intellectual history, university politics, or rags-to-riches stories. Both authors have led very interesting lives and the tone throughout the book is upbeat and positive. This is one of the best and most-influential books I have ever read. Milton Friedman is one of the most clear-thinking, intelligent people of the twentieth-century and our country would be better off if more of his ideas on economics, education, and freedom were put into practice.

A wonderful collection of all the little gems that you love to perform for kids or really for anyone! So awesome to now have them all in one great book. Allan Zola Kronzek adds dozens of useful tips and solid presentational advice throughout the book. This is a real treasure and a great read. You'll love it!

I bought this book for a friend who has grandchildren and he loved it. He's just learning magic tricks to entertain them. I read some of the tricks before giving him the book and I was impressed. You don't need to buy anything special and it's a good way to quiet a kid down in a restaurant. I ordered another copy for myself!

I wish we had this book when the grandsons were younger (now they're in college). But our grand nephews and nieces will get a real kick out of these tricks once we hone our act together (No reason why grandmas and grand aunts can't join the fun along with grandpas and grand uncles). We love the great step-by, clear-cut explanatory graphics. Can't wait to see the kids' reactions!

Great book, easy to use. A note of caution- our 2 yr old grandson tried to shove a straw up his nose after seeing grandpa do that trick! We had to teach him the trick so he wouldn't try to copy what he THOUGHT grandpa was doing. Now they happily do the trick together. So use some wisdom, and you'll have a great time with this book.

Just what the Doctor ordered! Canâ€™t wait to try these magic tricks on my three grand kids! Iâ€™m sure they will enjoy them.

The granddaughters have been dazzled and amazed at my husband's new magic expertise thanks to this book.

Bought three. One for a grandpa One for a dad. One for an uncle (me). Next family gathering we'll dazzle the crowd. The dad's five year old calls the book the 'experiment book'. He's begun 'experimenting' with several tricks.
